Shin Bet: Hamas senior official admits funding Temple Mount riots

(JTA) — A senior Hamas operative said that the group is paying young Arabs to harass Jews at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israel’s domestic security service announced.

Hamas operative Mahmoud Toameh, 63, made the claim in interrogations by the Shin Bet security services after his arrest on May 14, Shin Bet wrote in a statement posted Thursday on its website.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will join Pope Francis in a prayer for peace at the Vatican.

Jewish Agency accused of leaking Ukraine evacuation plans

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Foreign Ministry accused the Jewish Agency for Israel of leaking a plan to evacuate Jews from eastern Ukraine.

The plans to leave the country in the wake of ongoing political crisis and violence there were reported in the Ukrainian media, Israel’s Channel 2 reported Wednesday. The plans are no longer viable, according to the report.

Malcolm Glazer, sports owner and philanthropist, dies at 85

(JTA) — Malcolm Glazer, owner of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the British soccer club Manchester United, has died.

Glazer died Wednesday, three days after his 85th birthday. He had been in failing health after suffering two strokes since April 2006.
