JERUSALEM (JTA) — Dozens of haredi Orthodox men rioted at a construction site in Beit Shemesh, which they believe is a burial site.
Some 14 rioters were arrested during Monday’s protest by Jerusalem District Police, including one on charges of assaulting a police officer. More than 100 haredim protested at the site, where they set trash collection bins on fire and blocked a major city street.
The rioting spread to haredi Orthodox neighborhoods of Jerusalem, including Geulah and Mea Shearim, where trash bins were set ablaze to prevent traffic in the streets.

(JTA) — Israeli prosecutors indicted two haredi Orthodox men for assaulting police officers called to the scene of a mob attack on a haredi soldier in Jerusalem.
The two men, Joseph Braun and Jacob Krischavski, were charged on July 11 with attacking several police officers two days earlier during a riot that erupted in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Mea Shearim. If convicted, the defendants could face at least three years in prison.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The U.S. Army said it had eliminated part of a presentation on extremist threats that lumped together haredi Orthodox Jews with the Ku Klux Klan and al-Qaida.
