Chef Alon Shaya wins James Beard Award

Chef Alon Shaya, who is the principal chef at Domenica Restaurant in the Roosevelt Hotel, Pizza Domenica and the recently-opened Israeli and Middle Eastern themed restaurant Shaya, won the top honor as the James Beard Award recipient as Best Chef from the Southern Region.

Domenica’s Alon Shaya nominated for Beard Award

Chef Alon Shaya of Domenica Restaurant was one of four local chefs nominated for a James Beard Award, considered the most prestigious of national awards for restaurants and chefs.

Shaya, who hails from Israel, joins three other locals – Jason Duvalier of Le Petite Grocery, Ryan Prewett of Peche and Sue Zemanick of Gautreau’s – as a Best Chef South nominee.

Shaya was selected as the Chef of the Year two years ago by New Orleans magazine. See a reprint …
