Barbara Marcus is dead at 93; graveside on Friday afternoon
BARBARA COHN MARCUS died on October 10, 2024. She was 93.
A native of Fort Worth Texas and an only child, she moved to New Orleans to attend Newcomb College, where she met the love of her life, the future Supreme Court Justice Walter F. Marcus Jr. She graduated in 1953.
Her elegance and graciousness defined her life. She was a fitting partner in her husband’s elections, court functions, and family life. She was proud they never lost an election or missed a family sporting event.
The two spent 52 years together until his death in 2004.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was a beloved matriarch whose presence and love will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kimmell (Bamsie); her son, Adam, B. Marcus; her daughter in-law, Linda Novak; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter F. Marcus, III.
Relatives and friends attended graveside services at Metairie Cemetery (use Fountain entrance) on Friday October 18, 2024 at 2 p.m. A reception followed at her home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Isidore Newman School.
