The field of honor that was once<\/p>\n

A testament of steel<\/p>\n

Has now been cleared of all debris<\/p>\n

Except that which we feel.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the ruins of sorrow<\/p>\n

Families cry for those that won\u2019t return.<\/p>\n

Children wail and lovers weep<\/p>\n

For those of whom they yearn.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The uniforms of blue and white —<\/p>\n

Reminders to us all —<\/p>\n

Are fused with red, which is the blood<\/p>\n

Of those who heard the call.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And brave men out on foreign soil<\/p>\n

Now wage the battle proud.<\/p>\n

They rattle sabers gleaming bright<\/p>\n

Their caissons ring out loud.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The sinister force from far off lands<\/p>\n

Sent assassins from the skies<\/p>\n

They thought that killing innocents<\/p>\n

Would reinforce their lies.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But what beheld them following<\/p>\n

This cowardly attack<\/p>\n

Was a steely-eyed America<\/p>\n

That was ready to fight back.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The dust that fell from towers tall<\/p>\n

Still lingers to this day.<\/p>\n

It flows throughout our beating hearts —<\/p>\n

It shows up when we pray.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And while we fight these craven foes,<\/p>\n

We know we\u2019ve just begun<\/p>\n

To honor those that passed away<\/p>\n

The date of Nine-One-One.<\/p>\n
