{"id":13839,"date":"2014-05-02T04:03:10","date_gmt":"2014-05-02T10:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=13839"},"modified":"2014-05-02T04:03:10","modified_gmt":"2014-05-02T10:03:10","slug":"yeshiva-u-mens-tennis-aces-conference-test-to-make-ncaas-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/yeshiva-u-mens-tennis-aces-conference-test-to-make-ncaas-debut\/","title":{"rendered":"Yeshiva U. men&#8217;s tennis aces conference test, to make NCAAs debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK (JTA) &#8212; The Yeshiva University men&#8217;s tennis team won its conference championship to earn the squad&#8217;s first berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The Maccabees (11-1) will find out their playoff opponent on Monday and play their first match in the tournament on May 8 or 9, the university said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>Yeshiva earned its way into the NCAAs this week with a 5-1 victory over Mount Saint Mary College in the championship match of the Skyline Conference postseason tournament.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I told them after the match to take a moment to realize that they are not only tennis players, but they are now champions,&#8221; Yeshiva coach Ira Miller said in the news release.\u00a0 &#8220;It was made that much sweeter to be part of such an historic moment and be the first NCAA representatives in the history of their university.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Igal Mostkov, the conference&#8217;s player of the year, improved to 11-0 this season at No. 1 singles with a straight-set victory against Mount Saint Mary.<\/p>\n<p>Dmitri Lebedyev joined Mostkov as a first-team all-conference member, while Steven Jemal was tapped for the second team.
