Tevye, his wife and six daughters were the subjects of several Yiddish plays and, later, Yiddish films, but was most famously adapted into Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock’s immortal “Fiddler on the Roof,” the award-winning 1964 Broadway musical that starred Zero Mostel in the title role. When Norman Jewison directed the film version of that musical, he chose Israeli actor Topol to play the role. Loewy plans to intersperse his talk with scenes from that film musical as a means of reinforcing his historical and literary examination of Tevye, his life and family. Light refreshments will be served following the talk, which begins at 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday night, July 25. The final portion of the program, occurs the following Thursday night, August 2 at 8:00 p.m. A bloc of 25 tickets was secured for interested parties to attend the opening night of Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” starring Randy Cheramie in the title role. While the group tickets at $30 each have been sold out, individual tickets for that night’s performance can still be secured directly by calling the box office at 504-865-5269. The Tulane production, which also features Temple Sinai’s Cantor Joel Colman as Mordcha the innkeeper, runs that night through August 5.

[24
344,8790,8795,8800,8788,342,345,348,343,347
