{"id":20839,"date":"2014-12-21T21:59:10","date_gmt":"2014-12-22T03:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=20839"},"modified":"2014-12-21T21:59:10","modified_gmt":"2014-12-22T03:59:10","slug":"gal-mekel-waived-by-pelicans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/gal-mekel-waived-by-pelicans\/","title":{"rendered":"Gal Mekel waived by Pelicans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(JTA) \u2015 Gal Mekel, the second Israeli to play in the NBA, was released by the New Orleans Pelicans after two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Mekel, a point guard, had been acquired by the Pelicans on Dec. 5 and appeared in four games, according to NBA.com. During his four games for New Orleans he averaged 1.5 points and 3.3 assists. The Pelicans activated a clause in Mekel&#8217;s two-year, non-guaranteed contract which allowed them to release him without compensation before Jan. 10.<\/p>\n<p>He was waived earlier this season by the Dallas Mavericks.
