Activities for Rosh Hashanah"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>FUN \u00a0ACTIVITIES FOR ROSH HASHANAH<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><\/strong><em>Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year.\u00a0 It\u2019s a time for all Jews to reflect the prior year, and prepare for the new one!\u00a0 The term literally means \u201cthe head of the year.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>ACTIVITIES:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Greeting Cards\u2026..<\/strong><em>Jazz up this fun and traditional activity by scanning your child\u2019s artwork and sending e-cards to family and friends!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Apple Honey Jars\u2026.<\/strong>.<em>Core out an apple like you would a pumpkin.\u00a0 Scoop the inside of the apple with a melon ball tool.\u00a0 Take the scooped apple (jar)\u00a0 and wipe it with lemon juice so the exposed apple doesn\u2019t turn brown.\u00a0 Add honey inside and place on the family dinner table!\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><strong>*PLEASE NOTE<\/strong>&#8212;&#8211;The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">do not<\/span> recommend giving honey to any child one year of age or under. <strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Homemade Shofar\u2026<\/strong><em>First find a cardboard birthday party horn and only keep the plastic blowing piece.\u00a0 Take two paper towel tubes and cut them in half.\u00a0 This will give you 4 separate tubes.\u00a0 Take only 1 tube and cut it lengthwise.\u00a0 Take this tube and roll into a cone shape.\u00a0 Then attach the plastic blower to the top of the cone using masking tape.\u00a0 On the larger opening of the cone make a pleat.\u00a0 Place 1 of the 3 remaining tubes inside the cone opening.\u00a0 Use lots of masking tape to secure the cone to the tube.\u00a0 Then repeat the same above step of creating a pleat in the bottom of the second tube and fit the third tube inside the second tube.\u00a0 Again secure it with masking tape and repeat the step using the last tube.\u00a0 Once all the tubes are connected, then rewrap and cover the entire project with masking tape.\u00a0 You might need to wrap the tubes many times with the masking tape.\u00a0 The last step is to take some brown shoe polish and gently rub it into the masking tape tubes.\u00a0 This will help the homemade shofar appear like a ram\u2019s horn.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The 3 Shofar Notes\u2026<em>..<\/em><\/strong><em>Listen to the sounds of a shofar!\u00a0 Go to Akhlash\u2019s Rosh Hashana site href=\"http:\/\/www.akhlah.com\/holidays\/roshhashana\/shofar.php\">www.akhlah.com\/holidays\/roshhashana\/shofar.php<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>RECIPES\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Applesauce<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>6 apples of choice peeled, cored, sliced into small pieces<\/p>\n<p>1\u00bc cups of water<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 cup sugar or honey<\/p>\n<p>1\/8 tsp cinnamon<\/p>\n<p><em>Place apples into a covered pot of boiling water on simmer for 25 minutes or when apples are soft.\u00a0 Cool.\u00a0 Place into a blender and add remaining ingredients.<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dried Apples<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>5 OR 6 apples peeled, cored and cut into 1\/8 inch rings\/slicest.\u00a0 Large pot that holds\u00a01 gallon\u00a0of water<\/p>\n<p>1\/8 cup of salt.<\/p>\n<p><em>Boil and simmer the slices for 10 minutes in the salt water solution.\u00a0 Then place the slices on a cookie sheet in 180 degree oven.\u00a0 Heat in oven for 3-4 hours.\u00a0 Turn the slices every 30 minutes until the slices are dry<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Great chewy and edible snacks!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Apple Waffle Iron Cookies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>2 eggs<\/p>\n<p>1 stick of butter\/or margarine (softened)<\/p>\n<p>\u00bc cup brown sugar<\/p>\n<p>1 \u00bd cup flour<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd cup of peeled and shredded apples<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp vanilla, baking powder, and cinnamon<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd tsp salt<\/p>\n<p>1\/8 tsp nutmeg<\/p>\n<p>powder sugar (optional) sprinkled on cool cookies<\/p>\n<p>Heat up a waffle iron and mix the above ingredients together.\u00a0 Drop 1 tbsp into quarter of iron until brown.\u00a0 (~1 \u00bd minutes)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Interesting Facts to share:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Did you know that the shofar is
