{"id":24208,"date":"2015-06-07T09:38:44","date_gmt":"2015-06-07T15:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=24208"},"modified":"2015-06-07T09:38:44","modified_gmt":"2015-06-07T15:38:44","slug":"report-rabbi-marc-schneier-expelled-from-rabbinic-group-over-affair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/report-rabbi-marc-schneier-expelled-from-rabbinic-group-over-affair\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: Rabbi Marc Schneier expelled from rabbinic group over affair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(JTA) \u2014 Rabbi Marc Schneier of The Hampton Synagogue has been expelled from the Rabbinical Council of America, the Forward reported.<\/p>\n<p>Schneier, the founding rabbi of the synagogue in Westhampton Beach, N.Y., reportedly was expelled earlier this year following allegations that he had an extramarital affair with a congregant five years ago, the Forward\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/forward.com\/news\/309558\/rabbi-marc-schneier-booted-from-rabbinic-group\/?utm_content=daily_Newsletter_TopSpot_Title_Position-1&amp;utm_source=Sailthru&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=The%20Forward%20Today%20%28Monday-Friday%29&amp;utm_campaign=New%20Daily%202015-06-06\">reported<\/a> citing an unnamed source \u201cwith first-hand knowledge of the expulsion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The RCA did not deny that it had expelled Schneier, the Forward reported on Friday. Schneier told the Forward that he was never notified of an expulsion.<\/p>\n<p>Schneier also is the founder and head of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding.<\/p>\n<p>The woman with whom Schneier is said to have had the affair, Gitty Leiner, is currently his fifth wife.
