JOSEPH I. ROSS, 86, a retired executive and associate publisher of the Times-Picayune newspaper for 40 years, died Wednesday, June 24 at the Villas at Woldenberg Village.<\/p>\n

Ross came to New Orleans after graduating from high school in his native New York to attend Tulane University. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree and worked for a short time as a geologist before joining the staff of the Times-Picayune as a salesman, first in the classified advertising department and, later, in the display advertising department.<\/p>\n

Ross was elevated to manager of the advertising department in the 1960s and later achieved success as a vice president and business manager of the company during the later portion of his career.<\/p>\n

Among his outside pursuits, he served as the president of the Parent Teacher Organization at Ella Dolhonde Elementary School in Metairie.<\/p>\n

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ross; sons, Richard and Bob Ross; his daughter Betsy Ross of Salt Lake City; and five grandchildren.<\/p>\n

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral service to follow on Sunday, June 28, at Congregation Gates of Prayer, 4000 West Esplanade Ave. in Metairie. A private burial service will follow the service.<\/p>\n
