Rau Napoleon exhibit closing tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>M. S. Rau Antigues is closing its exhibition &#8220;Napoleon: General. Emperor. Legend.&#8221; tomorrow, January 7. Rau Antiques. (Photo by Alan Smason)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>With its French colonial past and rich Creole history, New Orleans was strongly attracted \u00a0to the French military hero and leader. The Napoleon House, located on St. Louis and Chartres Streets, stands as an historic reminder of the allegiance of his many followers in the city, who had hoped to secret him to New Orleans before he fell ill and died.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit located on the second floor of the antiques store at 630 Royal Street, includes many items on loan and many intended for sale.<\/p>\n<p>Among the items are a death mask of Napoleon, one of dozens made after the death of the French emperor and his sword. Also on display is the desk Napoleon used from which he carried on his business and correspondence while being held as a prisoner on the island of Elba.<\/p>\n<p>Another item &#8211; an ivory topped cane &#8211;
