{"id":38536,"date":"2017-09-19T15:36:27","date_gmt":"2017-09-19T21:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=38536"},"modified":"2017-09-24T06:58:01","modified_gmt":"2017-09-24T12:58:01","slug":"former-girl-scout-professional-homemaker-shirley-schiffman-rites-set","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/former-girl-scout-professional-homemaker-shirley-schiffman-rites-set\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Girl Scout professional, homemaker Shirley Schiffman rites today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SHIRLEY KOLTUN SCHIFFMAN, \u00a0a homemaker and former Girl Scout professional, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. \u00a0She was 91.<\/p>\n<p>A native and lifelong New Orleanian,\u00a0she attended Columbia University and graduated from Newcomb College in 1947 with a degree in child psychology. Schiffman\u00a0worked as an executive and a counselor with the local Girl Scouts Council for many years. She chose to spend much of her time as a homemaker and was an active member of Temple Sinai and participated in its Sisterhood for over 50 years.<\/p>\n<p>She was predeceased by her husband, Leopold \u201cRed\u201d Schiffman and her son-in-law, Frank Brauner. She is survived by her daughter Janet S. Brauner and her son Jerry M. Schiffman (Rita), three grandchildren and a\u00a0great-grandson.<\/p>\n<p>A memorial service will be held at the Feibelman Chapel of Temple Sinai, 6227 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans today, September 24, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. Rabbi Edward Paul Cohan will officiate. \u00a0Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon. Interment in Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. III will be private.<\/p>\n<p>Memorials are suggested to Temple Sinai in her memory.
