Jessica Teich made the allegations in an article published Friday by the Vulture culture news website. She said the harassment was constant for two to three years in the mid-1908s when she worked as a writer alongside Dreyfuss, who was at the height of his fame.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe created a very hostile work environment, where I felt sexualized, objectified, and unsafe,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
At the time of the alleged harassment, Teich, 58, was in her mid-20s and worked as a researcher and junior writer on Dreyfuss\u2019s TV passion-project called \u201cFunny, You Don\u2019t Look 200: A Constitutional Vaudeville.\u201d Although he was married with a child, she said he often tried to kiss her in professional settings, slipped her \u201cI love you\u201d notes during meetings and made sexual comments to her.<\/p>\n
Most shockingly, Teich said, Dreyfuss, once called her into his trailer and then showed her his erect penis.<\/p>\n
\u201cI remember walking up the steps into the trailer and turning towards my left, and he was at the back of the trailer, and just \u2014 his penis was out, and he sort of tried to draw me close to it,\u201d she said. \u201cI can\u2019t remember how my face got close to his penis, but I do remember that the idea was that I was going to give him a blow job. I didn\u2019t, and I left.\u201d<\/p>\n
Teich said she somehow exited the trailer and did not tell anyone about the incident. She said she \u201ctrusted\u201d and \u201cliked\u201d Dreyfuss and felt that she must have asked for it in some way. At the same time, she said, he had a lot of power over her.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was famous, he was rich, he had an Oscar,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was my boss. There was no question about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Teich said she was motivated to come forward by Dreyfuss\u2019s response to his son accusing actor Kevin Spacey of groping his crotch when he was 18 years old. A few hours after Buzzfeed ran the story, Drefyuss tweeted that he was \u201cincredibly proud\u201d of his son.<\/p>\n
Many cheered the fatherly show of support, but Teich said she grew \u201cbothered.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I read about his support for his son, which I would never question, I remember thinking, But wait a minute, this guy harassed me for months,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was in a position of so much power over me, and I didn\u2019t feel I could tell anyone about it. It just seemed so hypocritical.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dreyfuss, 70, responded with a statement included in the article apologizing for his behavior, and admitting to having been an \u201casshole\u201d at the time, but said he was not an \u201cassaulter.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI emphatically deny ever \u2018exposing\u2019 myself to Jessica Teich, whom I have considered a friend for 30 years. I did flirt with her, and I remember trying to kiss Jessica as part of what I thought was a consensual seduction ritual that went on and on for many years,\u201d he said. \u201cI am horrified and bewildered to discover that it wasn\u2019t consensual. I didn\u2019t get it. It makes me reassess every relationship I have ever thought was playful and mutual.\u201d<\/p>\n
Know for his roles in films like \u201cJaws,\u201d \u201cClose Encounters of the Third Kind\u201d and \u201cMr. Holland\u2019s Opus,\u201d Dreyfuss has also played famous fellow Jews, including last year in an ABC mini-series about Bernie Madoff. In the 1990s, he often spoke on behalf of Peace Now, an Israeli organization that promotes peace with the Palestinians. He has continued to comment on Israeli politics from a left-wing perspective.<\/p>\n
Teich, who is also Jewish and wrote last year wrote a memoir, \u201cThe Future Tense of Joy,\u201d detailing a year of sexual abuse and beatings she experienced at 16, said the statement is \u201cmore than I thought anyone would get from him,\u201d and she responds to \u201cthe sense of hurt that underlies his words.\u201d But, she added, the word \u201cflirt\u201d minimizes what happened, and \u201cI\u2019m not that guy\u2019s friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
