{"id":4038,"date":"2012-11-30T05:00:30","date_gmt":"2012-11-30T11:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=4038"},"modified":"2012-11-30T05:00:30","modified_gmt":"2012-11-30T11:00:30","slug":"stevie-wonder-cancels-friends-of-idf-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/stevie-wonder-cancels-friends-of-idf-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"Stevie Wonder cancels Friends of IDF performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(HOLLYWOOD) &#8211; Legendary singer Stevie Wonder, recipient of 25 Grammy\u00ae Awards and an Academy Award\u00ae, has cancelled his performance at the annual Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) Western Region Gala on Thursday, December 6th.\u00a0 The Gala, chaired by FIDF National Board Member and major supporter, Haim Saban and his wife Cheryl, will be attended by over 1,200 FIDF supporters and dignitaries from the U.S. and Israel who will gather to promote FIDF well-being and educational programs benefiting Israel\u2019s soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of the performer cited a\u00a0recommendation\u00a0from the United Nations to withdraw his participation given Wonder\u2019s involvement with that organization as a &#8220;Messenger of Peace.&#8221;\u00a0 FIDF National Director and CEO, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Yitzhak (Jerry) Gershon said \u201cwe regret the fact that Stevie Wonder has decided to cancel his performance at an important community event of the FIDF, an American organization supporting the educational, cultural, and well-being needs of Israel\u2019s soldiers, their families, and the families of fallen soldiers.
