PROUSER<\/p>\n<p>This Shabbat, as we read in <em>Parshat Bemidbar<\/em> of the People Israel\u2019s tribal princes, much of the world\u2019s attention will be riveted to the royal wedding of Britain\u2019s Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle. Some, especially Sephardi congregations, celebrate Shavuot in part by the reading of a \u201c<em>Ketubah<\/em>\u201d \u2013 a wedding document memorializing the covenantal bond between God and Israel. In certain versions of this <em>Ketubah<\/em>, God (\u201cthe Prince of princes, the Ruler of rulers\u201d) is the Father of the Bride \u2013 the Torah \u2013 giving her in marriage to the Jewish People.<\/p>\n<p>The dowry includes the Bible, the Talmud, and their constantly unfolding exposition. Heaven and Earth serve as witnesses. &nbsp;The Jewish People declare their assent to the match: <em>Na\u2019aseh v\u2019Nishma<\/em> \u2013 \u201cWe shall do and we shall hear\u201d (<em>Exodus<\/em> 24:7).<\/p>\n<p>With this weekend\u2019s confluence of nuptial events, there is ample reason for joy and celebration. May the words of <em>Jeremiah<\/em> 2:2 be fulfilled in all who celebrate Covenantal Bonds this Shavuot: \u201cI will remember always the devotion of our youth, the love of our betrothal.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>(Rabbi Joseph H.
