{"id":51614,"date":"2019-11-01T14:26:38","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T20:26:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=51614"},"modified":"2019-11-01T14:26:38","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T20:26:38","slug":"you-can-buy-marilyn-monroes-menorah-for-150000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/you-can-buy-marilyn-monroes-menorah-for-150000\/","title":{"rendered":"You can buy Marilyn Monroe\u2019s menorah for $150,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(JTA) \u2014 For $150,000, you can light a literal candle in the wind \u2014 or eight \u2014 on a menorah owned by Marilyn Monroe.<\/p>\n<p>The bombshell film icon\u2019s menorah will go up for auction by Kestenbaum &amp; Co. on Nov. 7 in New York with a guide price of $100,000 to $150,000, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Monroe came to own a menorah when she converted to Judaism to marry playwright Arthur Miller. The brass-plated candelabra has a wind-up mechanism at its base that plays Israel\u2019s national anthem. Miller\u2019s parents bought it for Monroe.<\/p>\n<p>The couple divorced in 1961, a year before Monroe\u2019s death at 36.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Monroe\u2019s siddur was auctioned off for $26,250. The prayer book, which looks to have been given to Monroe by Miller\u2019s Brooklyn synagogue, apparently was used. A photo of one of the book\u2019s pages shows the blessing for ritual fringes circled in pencil with the word \u201comit\u201d scribbled next to it.
