(Screenshot from WABC)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In a series of tweets, the Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs Council of the Hudson Valley said that five Hasidic Orthodox Jews were taken to hospital on Saturday night, two in critical condition.<\/p>\n<p>The Council said the assailant was an African American male, his face partially masked with a scarf. It said the attack took place at 8:50 pm Central Time.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">At 9:50 this eve, a call came in about a mass stabbing at 47 Forshay Road in Monsey (Rockland County; 30 miles North of NYC). It&#39;s the house of a Hasidic Rabbi. 5 patients with stab wounds, all Hasidic, were transported to local hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; OJPAC (Hudson Valley Account) (@OJPACHV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OJPACHV\/status\/1211128362195988480?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 29, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>A number of outlets, including the haredi Orthodox&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vosizneias.com\/2019\/12\/28\/monsey-stabbing-multiple-people-stabbed-in-synagogue-saturday-night\/\">Vos Iz Neias<\/a>, identified the building as the Rabbi Rottenberg Shul.<\/p>\n<p>A Chanukah party was underway when the attack occurred. The assailant fled in a car, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>Rockland County police reported at around midnight that the New York Police Department had located a suspect and the vehicle involved in the getaway.<\/p>\n<p>Police later identified the suspect&nbsp;Grafton E. Thomas, 37, of Greenwood Lake, New York. Police Chief Brad Weidel told the Associated Press that he will face five counts of attempted murder and one count of burglary.<\/p>\n<p>Monsey, an upstate town of some 18,000, has a large Orthodox Jewish population.<\/p>\n<p>There has been a&nbsp;proliferation of attacks&nbsp;on Orthodox Jews in the New York-New Jersey area in recent weeks, including one on a Jersey City kosher supermarket earlier this month in which three people were killed along with the two shooters, a man and a woman who earlier had killed a police officer at a nearby cemetery.
