(JTA) \u2014 Larry David, the Bernie Sanders doppelganger who often portrays the presidential candidate in skits on \u201cSaturday Night Live,\u201d says the senator from Vermont should drop out of the race for the Democratic nomination for president and throw his support behind Joe Biden.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel he should drop out,\u201d David told The New York Times in an interview published Saturday. \u201cBecause he\u2019s too far behind. He can\u2019t get the nomination. And I think, you know, it\u2019s no time to fool around here. Everybody\u2019s got to support Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said in the far-ranging interview with Times columnist Maureen Dowd that he is relieved not to be flying back and forth to New York on weekends to do his Sanders imitation for \u201cSNL.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cImagine if he had become president, what would have happened to my life?\u201d said David, who is holed up at his Los Angeles home amid the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n
In a public service announcement for the state of California last week, David called on \u201cthe idiots out there\u201d to stay home and watch TV in an effort to curb the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n
David told Dowd that he is just fine with social distancing and hunkering down in his home. \u201cI will say that the lack of invitations, OK, that\u2019s been fantastic,\u201d he said. \u201cYeah, that I love. You don\u2019t have to make up any excuses.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said he is watching \u201cOzark\u201d and \u201cUnorthodox\u201d on Netflix and reading Woody Allen\u2019s controversial memoir, which was released last month after its original publisher dropped it.<\/p>\n
Sanders \u2014 who is David\u2019s distant cousin \u2014 has said he will remain in the race despite being about 300 pledged delegates behind Biden, while several states have postponed their primaries to June as they work to halt the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n
