{"id":55271,"date":"2020-05-30T21:24:43","date_gmt":"2020-05-31T03:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=55271"},"modified":"2020-05-30T21:24:43","modified_gmt":"2020-05-31T03:24:43","slug":"theres-going-to-be-a-new-fiddler-on-the-roof-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/theres-going-to-be-a-new-fiddler-on-the-roof-movie\/","title":{"rendered":"There\u2019s going to be a new \u2018Fiddler on the Roof\u2019 movie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(JTA) \u2014 Wonder of wonders: \u201cFiddler on the Roof\u201d is returning to the big screen.<\/p>\n<p>MGM will produce a remake of the iconic 1964 musical about the struggles and joys of Jewish life in the fictional Eastern European shtetl of Anatevka, according to Deadline.<\/p>\n<p>The new film will bring some star power from Broadway: Director Thomas Kail served in the same role for \u201cHamilton\u201d and has collaborated with its creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda (famously a \u201cFiddler\u201d fan), on other shows. Steven Levenson, who wrote the acclaimed musical \u201cDear Evan Hansen,\u201d will pen the screenplay.<br \/>\nThe remake will be carrying on a tradition of more than 50 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFiddler\u201d first had audiences saying \u201cL\u2019chaim\u201d when it opened on Broadway in 1964 starring Zero Mostel as Tevye and winning nine Tonys.
