{"id":6374,"date":"2013-04-08T22:26:14","date_gmt":"2013-04-09T04:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=6374"},"modified":"2013-04-08T22:26:14","modified_gmt":"2013-04-09T04:26:14","slug":"facebook-removes-page-featuring-anti-jewish-content","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/facebook-removes-page-featuring-anti-jewish-content\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook removes page featuring anti-Jewish content"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SYDNEY (JTA) &#8212; Facebook removed a page featuring anti-Jewish content, including a photo of murdered Jews in a mass grave at Bergen-Belsen with the headline &#8220;Lazy Jews.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In response to a formal complaint by the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Mia Garlick, Facebook&#8217;s Sydney-based manager of communications and policy, confirmed Saturday that the Jewish memes page was no longer available.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Wertheim, executive director of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, welcomed the removal and said a Facebook decision is pending about another 15 pages about which the council has complained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Jewish memes page not only represents a slur on all Jews, as Jews, but also subtly seeks to justify and therefore incite violence against them,&#8221; Wertheim wrote. &#8220;Many of the posted comments lay bare the hateful purpose of this page.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wertheim said the Facebook page violates Australian law though the Racial Discrimination Act and Facebook\u2019s terms of service against hate speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew about this finished document four month ago.
