The silence of ruined cities and killed people,\u201d he said in the prerecorded video. \u201cOur musicians wear body armor instead of tuxedos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey sing to the wounded. In hospitals,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>It was a dramatic highlight of the music industry\u2019s biggest night and symbolic of Zelensky\u2019s rise to a prominent stage in global pop culture.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the Jewish winners and other Jewish moments from the festivities, which took place in Las Vegas for the first time:<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Pop star John Legend followed up Zelensky\u2019s address with a powerful performance of a new song, \u201cFree,\u201d which borrowed a few lyrics from \u201cGo Down Moses,\u201d the famous Black spiritual song about the Old Testament\u2019s Exodus story told on Passover. A Ukrainian refugee also read a poem live onstage during the performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Jewish day school grad Jack Antonoff, who wore a Star of David necklace to the MTV Music Awards in 2017, continued his dominant reign as pop\u2019s most in-demand producer. He won non-classical producer of the year for his work in 2021 with Taylor Swift, Lana Del Ray, Lorde and others.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Ben Platt, perhaps the most famous alum of Camp Ramah, sang \u201cNot a Day Goes By\u201d from Stephen Sondheim\u2019s \u201cMerrily We Roll Along,\u201d in memory of the Jewish composer behind some of Broadway\u2019s most beloved musicals who died in November at age 91.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013Jewish rap star Doja Cat won in the best pop duo\/group performance category for her song \u201cKiss Me More\u201d featuring SZA. She got emotional while accepting the award.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 The Foo Fighters, whose non-Jewish frontman Dave Grohl has a history of releasing covers on Chanukah, won best rock album for \u201cMedicine at Midnight,\u201d best rock performance for \u201cMaking A Fire\u201d and best rock song for \u201cWaiting on a War.\u201d The band\u2019s drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died on March 25, was given a tribute video.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 New Orleanian Jon Batiste won album of the year for his eighth record, \u201cWe Are.\u201d In his acceptance speech, he called on his collaborator and the album\u2019s executive producer Ryan Lynn to join him at the podium. Lynn did so, briefly \u2014 wearing a black kippah.
