{"id":6880,"date":"2013-05-01T07:04:50","date_gmt":"2013-05-01T13:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=6880"},"modified":"2013-05-01T07:04:50","modified_gmt":"2013-05-01T13:04:50","slug":"israel-falls-in-survey-on-freedom-of-marriage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/israel-falls-in-survey-on-freedom-of-marriage\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel falls in survey on freedom of marriage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(JTA) \u2013 Israel received the lowest possible score in a freedom of marriage survey conducted by the Israeli religious rights organization Hiddush.<\/p>\n<p>The not-for-profit group released the results of its survey on Tuesday giving Israel a zero along with 45 other countries, including Saudi Arabia and Iran. The survey ranked countries on a scale of zero to 2.<\/p>\n<p>Hiddush cited Israel&#8217;s \u201creligious monopoly on marriage, which, among many determining factors, prevents hundreds of thousands of citizens from getting married.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Hiddush chair Stanley Gold said, \u201cOur hope is that the difficult image this map has created will assist in promoting a policy change in Israel that will bring forth freedom of marriage.
