{"id":7141,"date":"2013-05-12T17:11:01","date_gmt":"2013-05-12T23:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=7141"},"modified":"2013-05-12T17:11:01","modified_gmt":"2013-05-12T23:11:01","slug":"scottish-church-to-alter-report-denying-jews%e2%80%99-claims-to-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/scottish-church-to-alter-report-denying-jews%e2%80%99-claims-to-israel\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish church to alter report denying Jews\u2019 claims to Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(JTA) &#8212; The Church of Scotland will reword a controversial report which said &#8220;scripture&#8221; provides no basis for Jewish claims to Israel, the church said in statement.<\/p>\n<p>The 10-page report, titled \u201cThe Inheritance of Abraham\u201d and published online earlier this month, has been taken down from the Church of Scotland&#8217;s website until it is rewritten.<\/p>\n<p>A message posted on the church\u2019s website said that following talks on May 9 with Jewish leaders, the church has agreed to change the report by adding \u201ca new introduction to set the context for the report and give clarity about some of the language used.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement, co-signed by Board of Deputies of British Jews and three other Jewish groups, also said the church \u201cneeds to be explicit \u201c about its recognition of Israel\u2019s right to exist.<\/p>\n<p>The report had been submitted by the Church and Society Council ahead of a general assembly later this month.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to suggesting the church boycott Israel, the original document rejected &#8220;claims that scripture offers any peoples a privileged claim for possession of a particular territory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Such claims raise \u201can increasing number of difficulties and current Israeli policies regarding the Palestinians have sharpened this questioning,&#8221; the document said.
