{"id":8059,"date":"2013-07-08T21:30:27","date_gmt":"2013-07-09T03:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/?p=8059"},"modified":"2013-07-08T21:30:27","modified_gmt":"2013-07-09T03:30:27","slug":"alvin-schiff-jewish-education-pioneer-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crescentcityjewishnews.com\/blog\/alvin-schiff-jewish-education-pioneer-dies\/","title":{"rendered":"Alvin Schiff, Jewish education pioneer, dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK (JTA) &#8212; Alvin Schiff, a\u00a0 pioneer in Jewish education and a prolific author, has died.\u00a0Schiff died of unknown causes, Yeshiva University announced Monday. He was in his mid-80s.<\/p>\n<p>At Yeshiva University, he established and directed the Graduate School of Jewish Education in 1959, which later was renamed the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration.<\/p>\n<p>He authored more than a dozen books, as well as several hundred articles and research papers on the status of Jewish education.<\/p>\n<p>Schiff was a founder of such Jewish education projects as March of the Living, along with the New York parade for Israel now known as Celebrate Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Recognized for his global dedication to Jewish education, he was awarded the President&#8217;s Prize in Jewish Education in Israel in February 2005.
