On Monday, her digital stream of consciousness flowed elsewhere: to Jewish cuisine.<\/p>\n
\u201cNah Jewish American food is delicioooooous,\u201d she opined. \u201cA hot turkey Reuben on marbled rye with no cheese and extra sauerkraut and dressing and a black cherry soda??? With some dill potato salad and pickles and mustard??? Honeeeyyyyy stopp.\u201d<\/p>\n
She didn\u2019t stop: \u201cWhat do you order ?? You don\u2019t like gefilte fish???? Lmfao it\u2019s mad good what are you saying\u2026 no chocolate babka? No whitefish spreads? Water bagels?? Come on now.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Grammy nominee\u2019s paean to the Ashkenazi palette was a response to a more concise take: \u201cJews suck at food,\u201d another X user had written.<\/p>\n
The post surprised some Jewish denizens of X \u2014 who are, themselves, practiced at debating whether Ashkenazi food is good, and who have been witness to Banks\u2019 less laudatory comments in the past. \u201cBabes wake up azealia banks is defending jewish cuisine on twitter,\u201d tweeted Shoshana Gottlieb, a popular Jewish culture commentator.<\/p>\n
But if they thought they had a new comrade, they were soon let down.<\/p>\n
By the next day, Banks was onto her usual commentary on the platform \u2014 which, since she opened her account in 2023, has included at least 60 mentions of Jews. Some of those have echoed antisemitic stereotypes.<\/p>\n
One day after the gefilte fish tweet, when someone tweeted a racist remark at her, Banks replied with a post that said, \u201cAre you afraid your Jewish bosses will see you doing this and fire you? Where is all that white bravery?\u201d<\/p>\n
The same day, Banks posting about Drake, the Jewish rapper, writing that he would \u201cjump in his jew bag and SUE.\u201d<\/p>\n
Elsewhere on X, she\u2019s posted about how Jesus was \u201cborn a Jew\u201d to saying \u201cthe Country Belongs to the Chinese and The Jewish.\u201d Once, she posted since-deleted tweets in which she claimed \u201cfrom hip-hop to basketball and sports\u2026 the Jews run and own it all.\u201d<\/p>\n
Banks also has a storied past with the Jews in real life. In 2018, she vowed to never visit Israel again after she said she encountered racism while performing there. And in 2021, Banks announced her engagement to Jewish artist Ryder Ripps in a post on Instagram with the caption, \u201cI\u2019m Jewish now. MAZEL TOV BITCHES!\u201d<\/p>\n
Banks also called herself a \u201cjewcy diva,\u201d a moniker that she now sells as a pendant on her online store.<\/p>\n
She and Ripps broke up three weeks later. But that didn\u2019t stop Banks from tweeting, last October, \u201cI\u2019m honestly way more Jewish than Ryder Ripps. He didn\u2019t even have a mezuzah on his door. And he eats pork.\u201d<\/p>\n
