Sympathy says, \u201cI feel sorry for you.\u201d Empathy whispers, \u201cI feel with you.\u201d <\/p><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\"><b>Empathy is the spiritual art of entering another\u2019s world -- seeing with their eyes, hearing with their heart. <\/b><\/p><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\">To empathize is to bridge the quiet space between souls, carrying part of another\u2019s burden as your own. Empathy begins when we stop seeing others as \u201cother,\u201d and remember we are one. <\/p><ol start=\"2\"><li><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\"><b>The Challenge: Empathy Requires Effort <\/b><\/p><\/li><\/ol><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\">Empathy is difficult. We greet people with \u201cHow are you?\u201d But rarely want the truth.<\/p><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\"><b>True empathy requires humility, imagination and courage.<\/b><\/p><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\">We avoid the broken heart because it\u2019s hard to witness. This spiritual numbness isn\u2019t malicious -- it\u2019s protective. Our spiritual challenge: To live with an open heart in a world full of suffering requires courage and intentionality to carry our friend\u2019s burden.<\/p><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\"><i>Know someone carrying a heavy burden<\/i>? It grows through full intention, honest questions and deeds that lighten another\u2019s load. <\/p><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\"><b>The soul knows: \u201cHe ain\u2019t heavy -- he\u2019s my brother.<\/b>\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left;\">Sharing in sorrow, rejoicing in the success of another -- each deepens the heart. Spiritually, empathy flows from recognizing the intrinsic oneness of humanity and the universe.
