(Photo by Rebecca Szlechter)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mamdani, who has said that he would have the Israeli prime minister arrested in New York City and whose spokeswoman said that synagogues violate international law when they host pro-Israel events, skipped the parade. Kathy Hochul, New York City Police Department commissioner Jessica Tisch, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Israeli Consul General in New York Ofir Akunis, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), Reps. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) amd Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Eric Dinowitz, a member of the City Council who is chair of its Jewish Caucus and co-chair of its bipartisan task force on Jew-hatred. We are allies with one another, and hate against one is hate against all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shira Schwartz, a recent Baruch College graduate from Forest Hills, showed her support for the Jewish state from the sidelines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve gone my whole life, and I think it\u2019s important to attend to not only show support for Israel but to show resilience especially in this time,\u201d she told JNS. \u201cI think it\u2019s also important to attend for cultural reasons. Every culture and nation has something, so it\u2019s important we have ours too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schwartz attended for a \u201ctest of character.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s something to say about the numbers of attendees,\u201d she told JNS. \u201cIt shows that people care and aren\u2019t afraid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The recent graduate was glad that the mayor played hooky.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was probably afraid, because people wouldn\u2019t praise him, which is what he really wants,\u201d she told JNS. \u201cI think it\u2019s pathetic that he says, with a smile on his face, that he won\u2019t attend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani\u2019s decision to skip \u201cimplies he\u2019s not in support of the Jewish people, which is low, as he\u2019s a person of power who claims to be accepting of all faiths and beliefs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Akunis, the Israeli consul general, said at the parade that \u201cwe delivered a resounding answer to all those who hate Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was the largest and most significant parade ever,\u201d the Israeli diplomat said. \u201cThis year\u2019s parade was an unprecedented demonstration of strength by New York\u2019s Jewish community and the people of Israel.
