Peres to deliver Knesset petition on Pollard to White House

(JNS.org) — Israeli President Shimon Peres said he will deliver a petition to the White House urging U.S. President Barack Obama to release convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard.

The petition, which was presented to Peres by Labor Member of Knesset (MK) Nachman Shai and HaBayit HaYehudi MK Ayelet Shaked, was signed by an overwhelming 106 out of 120 Knesset members, including Arab MKs.

Federal judge dismisses Chabad lawsuit against Northwestern U.

(JTA) — A federal judge dismissed a religious discrimination lawsuit filed against Northwestern University for censuring a Chabad house for underage drinking.

The university cut ties in September 2012 with the Tannenbaum Chabad House and its director, Rabbi Dov Hillel Klein, after reports that the rabbi had served underage students wine and hard alcohol.

U.S. immigration to Israel drops 13 percent

JERUSALEM (JTA) – Immigration to Israel rose slightly in 2013 to 19,200, but that included a significant drop in immigrants from the United States. Last year Israel absorbed 18,940 new immigrants.
