(JTA) — Art Modell, the late owner of the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens, was eliminated in the first round of voting for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The first round of voting took place on Saturday. It was the first time that Modell had qualified as one of the 125 names on the eligibility list and reached the final 15.
Modell, who was Jewish, died last Sept. 6.

NEW YORK (JTA) — The Chicago Bears hired a Jewish head coach, Marc Trestman, to improve their pigskin prowess. Trestman, 57, a longtime NFL assistant, was named Wednesday to his first head coaching post in the league. (JTA) — Jewish player Adam Greenberg will resume his professional baseball career after signing a minor league deal with the Baltimore Orioles. Greenberg, 31, signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles and will work to get a spot on their Class AAA farm team in Norfolk, Va.

(JTA) — The New York Yankees have reportedly reached an agreement with Jewish player Kevin Youkilis to sign him for a one-year, $12 million contract. The deal has not officially been announced, and it reportedly is pending a physical.
