Crescent City Jewish News goes live!
The Crescent City Jewish News, a website dedicated to the dissemination of news and information for the benefit of the Greater New Orleans Jewish community, is now a reality. After two years of development Alan Smason, the editor of the new enterprise expressed delight that the website can now be shared with fellow New Orleanians and others. “The CCJN will serve as a clearinghouse for traditional news and features articles,” Smason said, “but it will also foster a true sense of community by reporting on important life cycle and social events pertinent to Jews living in New Orleans and elsewhere.” Smason pointed out that Jews have been an integral part of the city for generations and that the city of New Orleans once boasted the largest concentration of Jews in the South. Many leading citizens and philanthropic leaders in New Orleans have come from the Jewish community, he acknowledged. Following the devastation from flooding related to Hurricane Katrina the New Orleans Jewish community has become smaller and dispersed, he continued. “We hope to serve those who have resettled or are unable to return as well as to give insight to the hundreds of new members to the community,” he concluded.
