Dansker lecture to focus on Lerner and Loewe

Noted musicolgist and lecturer George Dansker will be presenting his annual lecture on Jewish composers next Friday evening, January 25, at Touro Synaogogue and this year it’s on Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, the composer-lyricist team responsible for Broadway box office winners “Brigadoon,” “My Fair Lady” and “Camelot.”

Titled “The Night They Invented Champagne,” a song written for the film “Gigi” (later reworked as a Broadway musical), Dansker will deliver a lecture while noted soprano Sarah Jane McMahon will sing songs selected by him for the evening.

McMahon will be joined by Touro Cantor Kevin Margolius, and her Lyrica Baroque partner and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra assistant principal cellist Daniel Lelchuk on the program, which is free and open to the public following religious services at approximately 7:00 p.m.
