STEPHEN ALLEN COHEN, MD, passed away on March 28, after a long illness and medical problems. He was 78.
Cohen graduated from Alcee Fortier Senior High School in 1958, received a bachelor’s of science degree from Tulane University and graduated in 1965 from Tulane Medical School. He completed a Tulane residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the iconic Big Charity and practiced for 35 years.
Dr. Cohen loved animals, good food, and all things New Orleans. He loved festivals, eating out with friends, breakfast with Cub Scout guys, lunch with Fortier guys, singing with Kol Simcha, the choir at Congregation Gates of Prayer, where he was a long standing member.
Cohen was predeceased by his daughter Sarah Lynn Cohen, a loss he found especially hard to take.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn R. Cohen; his son, Michael Leon Cohen (Natalie), his sister, Jeanne Farcus (Joe) and three grandchildren.
Because of these troubling times, a graveside service was held on March 31; a memorial service celebrating his life will be held when we can gather. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Gates of Prayer, the Louisiana SPCA, or St. Therese Academy.
