Entergy, CLECO crews restoring power…s-l-o-w-l-y

With hundreds of thousands of area customers still without power due to the passage of Hurricane Zeta, Entergy and CLECO crews from across the region fanned out to restore electric service. But efforts could last several more days, officials warned.

Entergy  announced that more than 480,000 of its customers were without power after the passage of the strong Category 2 storm made landfall and blazed across the state of Louisiana and into Mississippi and Alabama on Wednesday night before racing up towards the northeast.

By Thursday night approximately 400,000 customers were still in the dark. Entergy announced that operations to restore power could take up to 10 days. CLECO announced that more than 70,000 of its customers were without power in Louisiana and Mississippi, but had only restored power to 10,000 by Thursday night.

Orleans and Jefferson Parish officials urged residents to stay at home and warned drivers that many of the area’s traffic signals were down. Stop signs were placed at major intersections, but driving conditions – particularly at nighttime – remain hazardous.
