Federation announces hurricane preparedness

In a recent mass e-mail Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans executive director Michael Weil advised members of the local Jewish community of Federation’s plans in the event of a hurricane. In the event of a mandatory evacuation, Weil said, Federation offices in Metairie will be closed and communications will be available through cell phones, e-mail and, possibly, regular mail. Camp Henry S. Jacobs in Utica, Mississippi will be available as a shelter of last resort for members of the Jewish community after regular sessions end on August 7. Weil emphasized the importance of checking the Federation website www.jewishnola.com and also announced a special telephone number from which to receive recorded updates – 800-510-8133.
