Former medical administrative assistant Evelyn Barton Joseph rites on Monday
EVELYN BARTON JOSEPH, a retired medical administrative assistant, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 5, 2021. She was 93.
A native of New Orleans, she first worked at her father’s store, Rex Hats, along with her siblings. Following her graduation from Eleanor McMain High School, she married Marvin Joseph in 1957 and began to raise a family.
After her marriage ended in divorce in 1971, she relocated to Monroe, Louisiana for a two-year extended stay. When she returned to New Orleans, she began working in the dental clinic at Charity Hospital. Eventually, she was hired by Dr. Gerald Berenson, z’ll, as his administrative assistant at LSU Medical School and, later, at Tulane University’s School of Medicine.
She retired in her early eighties for reasons of ill health.
Among her many loves, there was Mardi Gras, cooking and baking and playing cards with family members, especially her grandchildren.
The pandemic over the course of the past year was a source of sadness to her, due to the isolation and social distancing at Woldenberg Village, where she had moved.
Joseph is survived by her daughter, Janet Pesses (Harold); her son, Dr. Jay Joseph (Stacy); her sister, Annette Paige; her sisters-in-law Sue Barton and Sherry K. Barton and three grandchildren
