GOP-Beth Israel to hold ‘kosher’ continuing education series

Rabbis Robert Loewy and Uri Topolosky have announced another in their series of continuing education programs to start next week and continue for three weeks on Wednesday evenings. The operative word in the series is “kosher,” but it has nothing to do with kashrut (kosher observance).

The programs will be held at either Congregation Gates of Prayer, 4000 West Esplanade Avenue or Congregation Beth Israel, 4004 West Esplanade in Metairie.

The first program will be Kosher Jesus on October 10 at 7:30 p.m. and will beheld at Gates of Prayer. This program will focus on Jewish understandings of Christianity.

The second program is titled Kosher Queer and will be held on Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30 pm at Gates of Prayer. This will be offered in cooperation with AYLA, an organization which encourages New Orleans LGBTQ Jews and allies to integrate into and participate in the community. This will give insight into Jewish perspectives on homosexuality.

The final program in the series will be Kosher Sex to be held on Wednesday, October 24 at 7:30 pm. It will be held at Beth Israel. This program will concentrate on Jewish views on sexuality.

The public is invited to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.
