Hertha Bart service slated for 11 a.m. at Touro Synagogue on Friday

HERTHA ROSENBLUM BART, the matriarch of the Bart family, passed away peacefully in New Orleans at the age of 100 years.

HERTHA R. BART

Born in St. Gallen Switzerland in 1924, she was a young model when she met her husband Morris Bart Sr. while he was stationed in Europe as a pilot with the 82nd Airborne during WWII.

At war’s end, Hertha came to America and was married in Knoxville, Tennessee where the couple lived until 1962, which was the year the family moved to New Orleans. While her husband worked in real estate, she continued her modeling career, and being bilingual, became a much sought-after tour guide for visiting Europeans.  She also became an extraordinary yoga instructor teacher at a time when yoga was just beginning to gain popularity.  Her classes were so excellent that she developed a huge fan base of followers. She was still demonstrating yoga positions to students well into her nineties!  Always beautiful and elegant with erect posture, her healthy lifestyle served her well into her very advanced years.

Bart is survived by her daughter Vivian Cahn (Richard), her son Morris Bart, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held on Friday, February 28, at Touro Synagogue at 11 a.m. Rabbi Katie Bauman officiated. Interment followed with a brief graveside service at Hebrew Rest Cemetery No. 3 at Pelopidas and Frenchmen Streets.

Family members are sitting shiva at the home of Cathy and Morris “Buddy” Bart on Audubon Place between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA in New Orleans, or Touro Synagogue.
