Internal Medicine physician Beryl Ames is laid to rest

BERYL DAVID AMES , M.D., an internist, passed away after a lengthy illness. He was 91.

Dr. Ames is survived by the love of his life, Jacqueline Strauss Ames. They were married for 69 years and met through family connections when they were teenagers. They did everything together including jogging, tennis, date night and traveling. Beryl loved to exercise daily at the Jewish Community health club.

A New Orleans native, he was the first child in his family to go to medical school and established a private practice in Internal Medicine from which he retired 20 years ago. 

During his medical residency, Ames served in in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was stationed in both Jacksonville and Key West, Florida.

A regular attendee at Touro Synagogue, Dr. Ames enjoyed participating in study groups and was also member of several synagogues in the New Orleans area including Shir Chadash and Chabad-Lubavitch of Louisiana.

He is survived by his  wife of 69 years, Jacqueline Strauss Ames, his children Steve Ames, and Ellen Meltzer, seven grandchildren and 10 great-granchildren. A private service was held at Chevra Thilim Cemetery officiated by Rabbi Katie Bauman.

Memorial donations are suggested to Chabad-Lubavitch of Louisiana.
