JCRS announces new board officers

Retired businessman Michael Goldman is set to lead the Jewish Children’s Regional Service (JCRS) as the agency’s president.

Other officers announced to the JCRS board are vice presidents Amy Gainsburgh Haspel, Alan Krilov, Rose Sher and Henry Weber. Kathy Shepard will serve as treasurer, while Carrie Pailet will be the board’s secretary.

Goldman relocated from his native New York to New Orleans in 1971. He and his wife Brenda owned the children’s apparel wear and furniture store, Child’s World in Lake Charles. They returned to New Orleans in 2015. While living in Lake Charles they had been leaders of the Jewish community in Southwest Louisiana, also volunteering for URJ’s Camp Henry S. Jacobs in Utica, Mississippi, where their children had attended camp.

Both Michael and Brenda became very informed about JCRS when dealing with the twin disasters of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Following the devastation in Lake Charles last year from Hurricanes Laura and Delta, the couple became re-involved with more disaster relief. They reached out personally to contact every member of the Jewish community in Southwest Louisiana so as to encourage those in need to register for assistance.

“I’m very proud to be serving JCRS in a leadership capacity,” Goldman said. “Over the years, I’ve witnessed the impact that JCRS has made through all of its programs: Camp and College Scholarship Assistance, Special Needs Support, PJ Library, Disaster Relief, Hanukkah Gifts, and other forms of Jewish and charitable outreach.”
