JEF’s annual fundraiser gala Sunday will honor Loewys, Jill israel and Bonnie Lustig

The Jewish Endowment Foundation of Louisiana, the constituent financial arm of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans will hold its annual gala brunch on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at the Higgins Hotel, 1000 Magazine Street.

The event will begin early with a patron reception at 11:00 am followed by a kosher-style dairy brunch that begins at 11:30. Kosher meals have been made available for registered attendees on request.

Limited seating is still available, but all requests must be made in advance by emailing Debbie Berins for security purposes and to get a proper head count for the food. Last minute kosher meal requests may be problematic, but should be discussed with Berins prior to appearing at the event.

Scheduled to be honored with the Tzedakah Award are Lynn and Gates of Prayer Emeritus Rabbi Robert Loewy, the organization’s highest honor. The rabbi was the longtime leader of Gate of Prayer for three decades before his retirement. The Loewys now live in Houston.

Community volunteer and leader Jill Israel is to receive the Endowment Achievement Award.

Bonnie Lustig, who works with the Jewish Children’s Regional Service, and is a volunteer with Shir Chadash Conservative Synagogue and many other organizations, will receive the Saundra K. Levy and Helen A. Mervis Jewish Professional Award given to the outstanding professional in the Jewish community.
