Jewish community matriarch Karen Soll succumbs to cancer
KAREN ZUCKERMAN SOLL, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, passed away peacefully in her home on January 12, 2021. She was 75.
A distinguished Lion of Judah, Soll was very active in the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans, a lifetime member of Hadassah and a member of Women’s American ORT. Dedicated to the Jewish community, she was a member of Congregations Chevra Thilim, Beth Israel and Gates of Prayer.
She was a graduate of Fortier High School,
During her years-long battle with cancer she found joy traveling including family trips to Israel, summers in Colorado, worldwide cruises and enjoying out-of-town life cycle events with family members.
She is survived by her husband of over 55 years, Dr. Edward Lee Soll; her three children Michael (Stacey), Shea (Michelle) and Gregg (Ellen); eight grandchildren; and her sister Esther Shaiman of Philadelphia.
A graveside funeral will be a private on Thursday, January 14 at 1:00 p.m. The service was officiated by Rabbi David Gerber and Emeritus Rabbi Robert Loewy, both of Congregation Gates of Prayer.
