The Ben Katz Post # 580 of the Jewish War Veterans honored their chief of staff, Carol Berman, on her promotion as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U. S. Army Reserves in ceremonies on Sunday, September 15, at Congregation Beth Israel, 4004 West Esplanade Avenue in Metairie.
While everyone knows her as “Carol,” Lt. Col. Ingrid Carol Miles Berman was honored for her more than 25 years of service in the Reserves, where she is presently assigned to the Training Division, 78th Training Division at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey.
Berman was on hand with her husband, Ben, and their daughter as Col. Nicole Spears, the Commander of 1st Operations Brigade, 78th Training Division,promoted Berman publicly following the Pledge of Allegiance and welcoming remarks by Post Commander Sol Gothard.
Commissioned as a Quartermaster officer in 1998, Berman holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Loyola University and a master’s degree in library and information science from LSU in Baton Rouge. She served with the 783rd Military Battalion during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, where she received the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the National Defense Medal with Campaign Star and other citations
Aside from her duties as chief of staff, she also serves as the adjutant for the JWV’s ‘Department of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma (DTALO)
