Math consultant, teacher Patricia ‘Patsy’ Friedler Kanter passes away

PATRICIA “PATSY” FRIEDLER KANTER passed away peacefully April 28, 2021 after a well fought illness. She was 71.

PATRICIA F. KANTER

A New Orleans native, she lived life big and hard, which was evident in every aspect of her life. Her generous heart is best witnessed through her love of her family and friends. She was a fierce advocate for those she knew and loved and would stop at nothing for them. Patsy embraced life head on and loved nothing more than a chance to celebrate it. Her elaborate parties were pure joy, and to be there in her presence is a cherished memory for many.

A dedicated teacher, she taught at Isidore Newman School for many years where she served as both the director of the Newman Math Institute and the Math Coordinator for the school. At Metairie Park Country Day School, she was the Family Math Director. Additionally, she served as an assistant principal at Newman. Kanter reveled in touching her students through the implementation of mathematics in their every day lives.

After leaving her career as a classroom teacher and administrator, she founded and successfully grew her own company, PFK consultants. She developed a calendar math program, Every Day Counts, which allowed her to travel the country and share her wisdom about teaching children math as an international authority.  Her love of math was infectious and lives on through the many books she authored. Kanter truly made Every Day Count.

Kanter was predeceased by her husband, David Kanter of San Antonio in 2008.  She is survived by her son Nathan Kanter (Carrie) and daughter Julie Washko (Todd) ; her brother Jerry Friedler (Marilyn); her sister Ann Eisen (Robert) and two grandchildren.

Plans will be made to celebrate her life later this year. In lieu of flowers,  memorial donations may be made to The Camp Thunderbird Charitable Foundation, 802 De Mun Ave., St. Louis, MO 63105; www.camptbird.com or the Jewish Community Center of New Orleans at www.nojcc.org. It was her wish
