“We just had to wait a bit longer,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell today at a press conference at where she announced Orleans Parish would enter into Phase II of restrictions for re-opening businesses and public venues. Cantrell said the City of New Orleans would begin Phase II on Saturday, June 10.
Under Phase II restrictions, those businesses that had opened under Phase I would go from a 25% maximum seating to a 50% maximum seating. Those businesses not allowed to open under Phase I restrictions will enter Phase II with social distancing in place and a maximum of 25% of seating capacity.
The mayor said the data clearly demonstrated that the city was “disproportionately impacted by COVID” and that New Orleans had enjoyed tremendous progress from being one of the nation’s hot spots to now boasting a 96% decrease in infections.
Phase II will last at least 21 days, according to the mayor.
