NCJW’s third ‘Plague of Anti-Semitism’ set to bow on Sun., Aug. 30

The Greater New Orleans Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) continues its third in a series of four educational webinars focusing on anti-Semitism. The Zoom session secheduled for Sunday, August 30 at 3:00 p.m. CDT will feature a former assistant director of the FBI, Steven Pomerantz.

Pomerantz, who was interviewed by phone by the CCJN, will be featured next week in a discussion about what he sees as a danger in the continuing rise of anti-Semitism from right wing white supremacists.

Pomerantz is scheduled to speak on “The Historical and Current Experience with Hate Crimes.” Pomerantz will include a breakdown of the current FBI demographics of hate crimes motivated by anti-Semitic rhetoric and violence from the extreme right as well as from extreme leftist elements of American society.

The session is co-sponsored by the Greater New Orleans Chapter of Hadassah, the South Central Region of the Anti-Defamation League and the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans.

Now retired from the FBI, Pomerantz has represented the FBI and the law enforcement community on numerous occasions in a variety of settings both domestically and internationally, and is considered
an expert in the area of terrorism.

During his 27-year career, Pomerantz served three separate tours of duty at FBI Headquarters, including as chief of its Counterterrorism Section. In that capacity, Mr. Pomerantz had responsibility for supervision of all FBI counterterrorism investigations both domestically and abroad.

Pomerantz has also been extensivel involved extensively in law enforcement and intelligence service liaison as part of the worldwide effort to combat global terrorism.

He has testified before Congress on numerous occasions and is regularly called upon by the media to comment on issues involving terrorism and law enforcement. A graduate of New York University, Pomerantz has received numerous awards and commendations.
