BRENT MERRIL DULITZ, O.D., a doctor of optometry, who was a native New Orleanian and longtime resident of the city, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 9 as a result of complications from surgery.
Dr. Dulitz had maintained a private practice in New Orleans, but moved away to Avondale Estates, GA. in 2004, where he maintained a residence until the time of his passing. He was employed by several optometric firms and agencies, where he gave of his time pro bono to help Medicaid patients and others gain better vision.
Dulitz was a 1969 graduate of Alcee Fortier Senior High School. He later graduated in 1977 from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, following in the footsteps of his father, who was also a practicing optometrist.
Dulitz was an avid reader and a Civil War buff. Even though he moved away from New Orleans, he kept up through his subscription to the Crescent City Jewish News and by occasionally checking in with relatives who still live here.
Dulitz is survived by sister Dara Dulitz, a resident of New Brighton, PA. A memorial celebration organized by his neighbors will be held sometime in the future. No further information is available.
