JERUSALEM (JTA) — Palestinians demonstrated throughout the West Bank to mark the anniversary of their declaration of independence. Hundreds of demonstrators, including foreign activists, blocked West Bank junctions and threw rocks at cars with Israeli license plates. Two Israelis were injured near the West Bank settlement of Efrat after their car was hit with stones.
Israeli soldiers reportedly dispersed some of the crowds with tear gas. Six Palestinian demonstrators were injured and several others were held by police, according to reports.
The Palestine National Council on Nov. 15, 1988, at the end of its 19th meeting, declared Palestinian independence.
