Pauline Greenspan Zelden dies in Chicago; memorial planned here for Jan.

PAULINE GREENSPAN ZELDEN, a former longtime executive assistant, died on November 22, 2019 in Chicago, the city where she had resided for the last six year years. She was 93.

A New Orleans native, she attended Sophie B. Wright School and enrolled at Newcomb College when she was only 16 years old. She graduated three years later as a Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in mathematics.

In an era when women were just entering the workforce, Pauline had a more than 40-year career as an executive assistant. Her bosses always relied on her quick thinking and wise counsel.

Following a first date in 1949, she became engaged and married to Max Zelden within six months. A short courting followed by a long, happy marriage is not the norm, she later cautioned her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 2003, following 54 years of marriage.

She is survived by her children Judy Reidy, Karen Zelden (Ralph Senst) and Mrs. Nancy Brennan (John) and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were provided by Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home of Wilmette, IL. A memorial service will be held in New Orleans in January 2020. Details will follow.

Condolences can be sent to Nancy Brennan, 2007 Spruce Drive, Glenview, IL 60025. Memorial donations in Pauline’s memory are suggested to The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1538 Louisiana Ave., New Orleans, LA 70115.
