President Rivlin spoke with Jordan’s King Abdullah, others after Meron tragedy
(JERUSALEM) – President Reuven “Ruvi” Rivlin spoke on the telephone today with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, who called to express his condolences on behalf of the Jordanian people following the massive loss of life and injuries sustained at Mt. Meron last night.
This is Israel’s worst civil disaster with at least 45 dead and more than 150 injured, some critically.
The president thanked the king and said that the warm and brave embrace of the State of Israel from around the world at this difficult time was “heartwarming and gives us strength.”
In addition to the king, the president also received messages of support and condolence from, King Felipe VI of Spain; the presidents of Austria, Finland, Germany, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland and Serbia; the president of the European Council; and the prime ministers of Australia and Sweden.
Condolences were also extended from the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Vatican.
